Mortal Kombat gets a reboot

Nothing sums up my childhood more than Mortal Kombat, so I was excited last year when leaked footage, thought to be a teaser, of a possible Mortal Kombat movie was leaked onto Youtube (check it out below). Unfortunately, it was revealed that the near 8-minute clip was only a concept video from director Kevin Tancharoen ("Fame" and "Glee: The 3D Concert Movie") to Warner Bros. which was dismissed. However, due to the success of the video, the studio funded a ten-episode web series, titled Mortal Kombat: Legacy, which ended in July to a huge, positive response (14 million views). With the success of the series and latest video game, New Line Cinemas, a Warner Bros. label, have finally agreed to go forward on a live-action reboot, with Tancharoen once again directing.

According to reports, the reboot will feature a more realistic take on the game, unlike the original 1995 movie and the unsuccessful 1997 sequel, with a R rating. Filming begins in March 2011, aiming for a 2013 release.
