J. Cole's name was on everybody's lips when he became the first signee of Jay-Z's Roc Nation label in 2009. After releasing a series of independent mixtapes, the rapper finally released his debut album Cole World: The Sideline Story last week (27 September).Cole World: The Sideline Story is an album that captures and holds your attention from start to finish. Cole proves he's an above average rapper, whose debut album could easily be compared to Kanye West's, as he delivers bold punch lines ("I blow brains, Cobain") and tackles everything from career struggles to unplanned pregnancies.
"It's your time," Jay-Z says to him on the song "Mr. Nice Watch", and it's clear Cole's making the most of it.
