Wiz Khalifa's "Black & Yellow" was one of the biggest songs of 2010. The song, which is a tribute to his hometown of Pittsburgh, with the colours of the Pittsburgh Steelers echoing throughout the chorus, was also one of the most addictive songs of the year. It is with this reason why I have chosen Wiz Khalifa to be the first Featured Artist on OMG! Samantha.
Born Cameron Jibril Thomaz to a mother and military father, Wiz spent most of his childhood around the world, living in Japan, England and Germany, before settling down in Pittsburgh, PA. After releasing a series of independent albums (Show and Prove and Deal or No Deal) and mixtapes (particularly Kush & Orange Juice), Wiz grew a large and devoted fanbase, who made the hashtag #kushandorangejuice the number one trending topic on Twitter and Google early last year.
Already a familiar name with underground hip-hop fans, it wasn't until September 2010 when Wiz released "Black & Yellow", the lead single off his debut studio album Rolling Papers (Atlantic), that garnered Khalifa mainstream success. The success of "Black & Yellow" can't be ignored, impressively debuting at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, and selling over 3 million copies since it's release. And the hits have kept coming, with "Roll Up", "On My Level" and "No Sleep" all appearing on the charts this year.
